Welcome to Wallingford School.

We are really looking forward to meeting you in September.

Here are responses to some of the most frequently asked questions that have been posed by parents (and students) who will be joining our school community in September.

Virtual Tour

The virtual tour of the school has been filmed and will be with you shortly.

Ties

Please go onto the school website there you will find a link (at the bottom of the page) to the uniform shop. Please go onto this & order a school tie – they cost £6.00. It is just like ordering on an online shop.

Ties will be handed out in school. (Ties will not be delivered with the rest of the uniform.)

Currently students are not wearing ties in school (ties cannot be washed as regularly as other pieces of uniform). The students will be given their tie once we have the go ahead that students can wear ties in school.

Please encourage students to learn how to tie a tie over the summer break.

Where do I go on the first day?

Lots of staff will be outside the front of school to greet you on your first day. They will then guide you to where you need to be.

When will I get my Timetable?

You will get your timetable on your first morning at Wallingford School. You will spend some time with your form tutor on your first day. Your form tutor will hand out your timetable and explain how it all works. They will also make sure that you know where all the rooms on your timetable are and all the key locations in the school.

What do I need in my pencil case?

Pencil case – a selection of basic equipment including:

  • Pens - more than one, in case one runs out (black, biro's?)
  • Pencils
  • Sharpener
  • Rubber
  • Ruler – 15 or 30cm
  • Colours - colouring pencils
  • Protractor
  • Set square

Calculator

When you receive the second pack of information from the school you will find included a letter regarding calculators. We would strongly encourage you to order one of these calculators (as it will have the same layout as the calculator that the teacher uses on the interactive whiteboard). However, we do understand if you already have a scientific calculator or would rather purchase one from somewhere else.

Buses

Transport on the school buses is arranged by Oxfordshire County Council.

Once a family has accepted a place at Wallingford School the names automatically go through to the Eligibility Team and they access whether students are entitled to transport on a school bus and which free transport the student will be allocated too.

Once they have allocated which bus route the students is on the bus passes is posted out directly to the home address.  Allocation is usually completed around the end of July. With the bus pass will also be information regarding which bus stop they should use & the specific timings for that particular route.

We would advise that students practise their walk to the bus stop before September, especially timing how long it takes so that they know how long to leave for the walk in the mornings.

Parents of students that are not eligible for free transport can apply to the Spare Seat scheme.

Parents can enquiring about any transport issues at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We, currently, do not have any further information regarding how school transport will operate during the current Covid19 circumstances. When the school has further details these will be passed on.

Lockers

When you receive the second pack of information from the school you will find included a letter regarding lockers. In that second pack you will also receive your Parentpay log in details. Once you have this information you can log into Parentpay and pay for a locker (This is a cost of £15 for the 5 years, non-refundable). The office staff will issue the keys to the students, via their form tutors, at the beginning of term – usually within the first week or so. We endeavour to get them a locker as close to their form room as we can.

Language dictionaries

When you receive the second pack of information from the school you will find included a letter regarding language dictionaries. In that second pack you will also receive your Parentpay log in details. Once you have this information you can log into Parentpay and pay for a language dictionary (if you would like to order one). They will then be issued to the students towards the beginning of term 1.

Mobile phones

Students are allowed to bring their mobile phone with them to school. However, during lessons they must be kept safely in their school bag (not seen or heard). The decision regarding phones is the families and the school does not take responsibility for any phones brought into school.

Biometric authentication

You will have received information regarding our thumb print recognition system to pay for things in school like school lunches. We will be organising for the biometric authentication to take place on the students first day in September. When you have your Parentpay log in details please go to the School meals section (each section of your Parent pay account has a separate ‘pot/purse’ for each account – trips / calculator / lunches etc.) and place some money in the school lunches ‘purse’.

Communicating with staff

Your main point of contact should be the form tutor. All Year 7 form tutors will be making contact with you before the summer break. This means that you have their email address. Email is the best way to contact staff at Wallingford School. Our email system works with our surname & our first initial plus @wallingfordschool.com

Covid-19 specific

At present we are unable to answer some of your questions that relate specifically to how things will operate in September due to Coronavirus. We are currently working on these and will update you as soon as possible.
