Dear Parents and Carers

My apologies this letter is reaching you later than we’d anticipated, but we had hoped to receive the Government’s guidance before sending this.

I am writing following the Government announcement yesterday evening that schools will continue to be open for the children of Key Workers during the period of school closure. Obviously this is uncharted territory for us and we need to quickly establish a database of Key Worker parents and carers and their needs for support in the coming weeks and months.

A full list of key worker categories will be published by the Cabinet Office later today. We will share this with you once this information is made available.

If you think you are in this category please can you follow the link to a brief survey on the VLE, https://vle.wallingfordschool.com/mod/feedback/view.php?id=10667

Or by email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and provide us with the following information:

  • Your job title and employer
  • Your child’s/children’s names and tutor groups
  • Whether you would wish them to be attending school from Monday 23rd March up until the end of term on Friday 3rd April
  • If your child is allocated school transport
    • will your child/children still require transport to and from school?
    • which service are they allocated?

Please be assured that this information will be treated confidentially. Please can you confirm these details by 2.30pm on Friday 20th March, if at all possible, as this will enable us to plan our provision from Monday.

Thank you for your ongoing support at this unprecedented time. We will be in touch with those parents and carers affected tomorrow.

Kind regards

John Marston

Dear Parents and Carers

I am sure that most of you are aware of the evening’s announcement by the government that schools will be closed to students at the end of Friday.

Although school closure was sadly unsurprising, I am mindful that the confirmation that public examinations will not be going ahead in May and June will have been upsetting for our Year 11 and Year 13 students and we will be speaking with both year groups tomorrow; for any students who are absent from school tomorrow we will ensure that the content of what is said is shared with them.  At the moment we do not know what the thinking is in this area and we will of course pass on any information as soon as we receive it.

It was indicated this evening that schools will be expected to stay open for certain groups of students, including those whose parents are described as “key workers”, for example those working in the NHS, Police or delivery drivers. At the moment we are awaiting further guidance in this area to inform our planning and we anticipate being able to update you in the morning with further information.

As I wrote to you earlier today, there are likely to be several updates over the coming days, some of which may require responses from some parents and carers. We will also be sharing further information about accessing work and other support for students before the weekend. As such, please do try to refrain from contacting the school by phone with non-urgent questions; our reception team are at full capacity and with such a developing situation may not be able to answer your question.

I hope this is helpful and we will update you with further information tomorrow.

Yours faithfully

John Marston
