Wallingford School is fortunate to enjoy a strong and happy relationship with RAF Benson and was delighted to welcome Station Commander, Group Captain Hamish Cormack, and his crew last Wednesday (31st October), who arrived on a PUMA HC2 helicopter.
The Puma travelled from RAF Benson with Group Captain Cormack, Mr Willis and the crew, landing on the school playing fields while staff and students from Wallingford School, Brightwell cum Sotwell Primary School, and the children from Tiny Toes Nursery, looked on. Some of our Year 8 Stars, along with Year 1s from Brightwell Primary School, were invited by the crew to hear about the Puma, its history and operational uses, to talk to and ask questions of the crew members and even to explore the inside workings of the Puma.
Our Year 8 students went on to hear an inspiring assembly from Group Captain Cormack focusing on Remembrance and what that means, but also offering the students an insider’s view to the work of RAF Benson and a little of his own background.
