Willis building opening

The penultimate week of the school year continues to be exceptionally busy with a fantastic variety of activities taking place.

On Tuesday we had our Sports Day and it was great – competitive, enthusiastic and memorable. Very well done to everyone who took part and a huge thankyou to our PE department for their organisation of the day. Blackstone were the overall winners – and were pretty pleased with the result – and we now look forward to the “big reveal” of the overall House standings for the year in our whole school final assembly next Friday on the final day of term.

Wednesday saw the official opening of our new building at the front of the school. It was a pleasure to welcome so many friends of the school to the event, many of whom have made vital contributions to the project, none more so than my predecessor as Headteacher, Mr Willis, after whom the building is named. It is now officially “W block”.

In terms of trips and visits, all of Year 9 got to the coast for Geography fieldwork over Wednesday and Thursday and half of Year 7 are at Kew Gardens today – great opportunities and the commitment of our Geography team to ensuring these opportunities for our students is so impressive. We have also welcomed teachers and students from our partner school in Germany to school this week and it has been wonderful to have them with us.

Finally, all students have had an assembly this week delivered by representatives from the Teenage Cancer Trust. These talks were both moving and powerful but also emphasised how we can support such an admirable organisation and illustrated how the funds raised by next week’s Sponsored Walk will be used. The weather forecast for next Thursday currently looks pretty good and we very much look forward to getting walking.
