Yr 13 Geographers in Porthcawl, WalesAt the end of the first full week of school it is safe to say that it has been an excellent start to the academic year. Routines are in place, expectations high and there is a purposeful “buzz” around school.

One of the highlights of the first few weeks of the year for me is seeing our programme of extra-curricular and enrichment activities kick into action and this has been very much in evidence this week. It is always great to see students heading home in PE kit following sports practices, seeing the lunchtime and afterschool clubs and activities being advertised and the posters promoting this year’s whole school production going up around school. The message to our students is to get involved, to participate and to enjoy extra-curricular activities. It has also been great to see trips and visits start this week with Year 13 Geographers in Wales undertaking their A level fieldwork and Year 11 Historians in Berlin today and over the weekend. These things all represent the life of our school and it is a pleasure to see, support and hear about them.

As ever, communication between school and home remains crucial and it has been great to see so many families at this week’s parent-tutor evenings. A reminder that these roll on next week with the following dates:

Monday 18th September                                             Year 8 Tutor Evening

Wednesday 20th September                                       Year 9 Tutor Evening

Thursday 21st September                                           Year 11 Tutor Evening

Finally, another big “well done” to our new Year 7 students who continue to make an excellent impression in everything that they do – we could not be more proud of them at the end of their first full week at Wallingford School.
