Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 should not bring a phone to school. Phones are not required in any lessons for these year groups and phones are not used on site by students in Years 7, 8 and 9.

Key reminders

  • If you need to get a message to your child during the school day, please contact our School Office and this will be communicated to your child.
  • If your child needs to contact their parent or carer, they can access a landline phone at the school office
  • Satchel:One and homework set in all year groups is accessible on a laptop or alternative device. A smartphone is not required to access any work at our school for students in Years 7, 8 and 9.
  • Phones will continue to be used by some of our students for medical reasons e.g. Diabetes

Responsible phone use as young adults

We continue to teach and support ‘appropriate and responsible’ behaviours towards phones in tutor time, assemblies and PSHE lessons.

If there are incidents of inappropriate phone usage outside of school hours, we encourage families to contact the Police, as appropriate.

Wider considerations for parents

  • Speak with your child to discuss the arrangements for the day to limit the need to make contact throughout the day
  • Consider a designated meeting point and time if your child is attending an after school club or fixture
  • Outside of school hours, consider “check ins” to build confidence that you and your child can manage without a smartphone
  • Support your child to learn parent or carer phone numbers in case of emergency outside of school hours.
  • If your feel your child is unable to manage without a phone, consider a simple phone for communication but without social media or web browsers.
