Christmas is definitely coming into sight at Wallingford School. A highlight of this week was Tuesday’s Christmas Concert where an array of talent was on show performing a wide range of material which got the audience into the Christmas spirit. A huge well done to our Music team, everyone who performed, a big thankyou to the fantastic students who co-ordinate sound and lighting at our events, and also the WSA for again providing drinks and refreshments.
Equally “Christmassy” – that’s probably not a real word (web admin's note: apparently it is) – have been the photos coming back from the German Exchange visit, in particular some spectacular images of a snowy Neuschwanstein Castle. We are really fortunate as a school that we have staff who are determined language exchanges still take place, and also have students and families who want to take part in them. They are great formative experiences in life as much as languages and culture and it is always a pleasure to hear about the experiences our students have had in Europe and then for our partners to visit us.
As we approach the end of term, there are a lots of rewards being handed out, with a Celebration Evening last Monday, WOW awards about to be announced and Stars certificates to follow next week. Equally, House events roll on with House matches next week and quite a lot of students scouring the school for some ducks… We also look forward to the upcoming Year group social events and next week’s Sixth Form Christmas Ball.
The last day of term, Friday 20th December, will be a Christmas-themed non-uniform day with donations welcomed to support Wallingford Food Bank. More details on the nature of the donations is being sent out through our social media channels and it will all be greatly appreciated. Also appreciated have been the many donations of toys we have already received to support local charity Sleigh2Give – the meeting room next to the staffroom currently looks like a Santa’s Grotto which is down to the generosity and support of our school community.
Amidst lots of excitement and Christmas spirit, our Year 11 students have been working hard in the first week of their mock exams. I cannot say much more than their approach has been immaculate and they continue to be the most superb role models for our younger students.
