First stop was York Minster, the second largest medieval gothic cathedral in the world. The students explored the different parts of the minster, including the crypt. This allowed students to learn new information, but also make links with their prior knowledge such as the Rose window and its links to the Tudors.
After lunch, we went to the York Chocolate Story. Students had a tour of the museum where they learnt about the Rowntree, Terry and Craven families and their roles in the history of chocolate, but also their influence on the social and working lives of the Victorian people of York. Then they took part in a workshop where students designed their own chocolate bar and presented their ideas Dragon’s Den style. They were encouraged to think about their product's unique selling point, price and target audience as well as what makes a good logo and slogan.
After a busy day, with lots of walking, students definitely slept well!
