Admissions Policies

The Wallingford School 2027-28 Admissions Policy reflects Oxfordshire County Council’s 2027-28 admission rules and arrangements for secondary schools.  Changes compared to the school’s 2026-27 Admissions Policy are:

  • In the oversubscription criteria:
    • we changed children of “staff of MTOAT employed by the school” to children of “staff employed by the school” - in line with the school admissions code.
    • “Feeder school” now works as a tiebreaker for in and out of catchment, so while geography is still the most important factor in the admissions rules, the school that children currently attend (as well as if they have siblings at the school) has taken a higher prominence in the criteria - in line with OCC.
    • we removed “children with a disability”.  Children with an EHCP are now admitted prior to application of the oversubscription criteria, and “children with a disability” as a criterion is no longer required by OCC or the school admissions code.
    • we changed the definition of siblings to include those who joined in sixth form and will still be attending at the time of entry of the younger sibling – in line with OCC.
  • We changed how distances are measured in line with OCC – by straight line from home to school as opposed to nearest designated public route. OCC also recommended that we designate a single end point in the school for the distance measurement; the school visitor’s gate is now quoted as the most central point.
  • We included content on in-year applications for service personnel as required in the school admissions code and by OCC.
  • We added content on how home address is determined and on changes of address/future moves, including for service personnel.
  • We added content for admissions outside the normal age group.
  • Under the school admissions code, published admission numbers are set for the age group at which pupils are or will normally be admitted to the school.  We have changed the PAN for the whole of sixth form to a PAN of 175 for entry in Year 12 while continuing to note that “The Academy will accept external students up to that figure less the number of the Academy’s own students who are accepted into the sixth form.”
