On Monday the 5th May, I had the honour of representing the Army Cadet Force at the VE80 parade in London, alongside eight other cadets from across the UK.
We had an early start, arriving at Wellington Barracks for 0730hrs. After meeting up with cadets from the Air and Naval services (as well as other youth groups), we spent the morning practising our marching through the streets of central London.
By midday, we joined the main procession, marching down the Mall alongside veterans and serving soldiers. One of the highlights was marching past His Majesty the King, who gave a salute as we passed - a very poignant moment.
It was a real privilege to take part in such a historic event and to represent the ACF on such a proud occasion. VE Day is the opportunity to celebrate and commemorate, so I’m inspired to have been able to do that alongside so many important people - as well as making it onto the tele!
