Benedict's Law

In February 2026, the Government formally passed Benedict’s Law, committing to introduce mandatory, statutory allergy guidance for schools in England through the Department for Education. From September 2026, schools are expected to implement and maintain these requirements annually across all schools in England.

1. Our Whole-School Allergy draft Policy will be uploaded in term 1.
2. Annual Staff Training, ensuring comprehensive allergy awareness and emergency response training for all staff is undertaken. 
3. Emergency Medication - we hold spare in-date adrenaline devices (AAIs) on site. They are not a second set of devices prescribed for an individual child; they can be used on any child or adult experiencing anaphylaxis. These are located at the Main Office and in the Sports Centre.
4. Individual Care Plans and action plans for pupils with serious allergies (including food, animal and venom allergies).

Catering information

• Maintain accurate ingredient specifications for all products used.
• Have a documented allergen matrix covering the 14 regulated allergens.
• Ensure allergens can be clearly identified for every dish served.
• Make allergen information readily available to pupils, parents, and staff on request.
• Prevent cross-contamination and follow agreed allergy management procedures.
• Communicate individual pupil allergies effectively between the school and catering team.
