As families are probably aware, we have been unable to use the majority of B block since the summer of 2023 due to the presence of RAAC concrete in the first floor ceiling of the building. This has undoubtedly been frustrating but our students and staff coped admirably with the move to the top of the Science block for two years and they dealt with the situation with fortitude and spirit. We have been supported by the Department for Education (DfE) with the installation of the new D block modular classrooms last summer to replace the facilities we have lost, notably for Art and Photography, and we are really pleased with the facilities although they are temporary.

Wallingford School was designated as part of the School Rebuilding Programme (SRP) by the DfE after the RAAC concrete was discovered and the SRP has significantly moved forward over the past couple of weeks with key meetings beginning to plan the future of the school site and site surveys ongoing.

This is an exciting project which includes the replacement of B block and potentially the redevelopment of other parts of the school site. As the planning moves forward, all members of the school community will be able to contribute to the process and we will keep everyone updated with progress.

In short, although we have had some temporary pain, the potential developments across the school site – in addition to the recently constructed W block – are really exciting and will provide buildings and facilities fit for purpose for future generations of Wallingford School students.

A message from the WSA:
