Another sunny week in school has seen a great deal going on – lots of Year 9 students on their Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme practice expedition last weekend, a Live Lounge Open Mic music performance on Monday evening, a Year 10 STARS trip on Tuesday together with a Merchant Taylors’ Quiz for a Year 8 team, modern foreign languages speaking and art public exams, a Maths Challenge for Years 7 and 8 on Wednesday and today we have our Year 13 Leavers’ Celebration Day. In short, we are a busy school!

Last Friday saw our Year 11 Leavers’ Celebration Day followed by their Prom in the evening. It was a wonderful day. The customary fancy dress saw film characters, Teletubbies, a few sumo wrestlers, some Traitors and a whole lot more making their way through the town and up St George’s Road past bemused members of the public to be greeted by their tutor team and Head of Year dressed as Star Wars characters. The final assembly was a lovely occasion, expertly put together and marshalled by Mr Choi and with a sense of warmth, camaraderie and care for each other amongst this group of 15 and 16 year olds which is something very special indeed. In the evening, the Prom started smartly, became sweaty when the disco got underway and ended with some very tired but happy teenagers making their way home.

It was a great day because everyone buys into the sense of celebration to mark the end of something but also to reflect on what has been special, memorable and important as they have grown up and been guided and supported by our staff along the way. Very well done to all and thankyou both to the staff who organised the day and to our fantastic Year 11s for just being themselves.
